Landscaping in Stages – Great Way to Get the Yard You’ll Love

landscaping-donts-3-638

Most great yards don’t happen overnight.

None of us were lucky to have won the grand power ball jackpot so it looks like we’ll all stay put and make indoor and outdoor improvements as our budget allows. For some reason, it’s easier to decide what to do next indoors, but outdoors is often more daunting.

Our need for time and space in the outdoors is essential to our physical and mental health. Creating a landscape around your home that draws you and your family outside isn’t that hard but it does take a little planning to make it work well with your site, vision, and way of life.

Evaluate Your Property

Make a base plan of your yard and mark all the positives (views, mature trees, etc.) and the negatives (no trees, close neighbors etc.). This plan will help you evaluate what needs to be incorporated or changed before your yard becomes the landscape you love.

Prioritize Landscape Use/Needs (example)

1. A backyard patio for dining and entertaining

2. Front yard curb appeal with welcoming entrance

3. Fire Pit or Fireplace

4. Wildlife habitat for birds and butterflies

5. Children’s play space

6. Screening certain views and creating privacy

Landscaping in Phases

Your beautifully landscaped yard does not happen overnight (unless of course, you did win that jackpot!). It will take months or years of planning. Landscaping is usually an incremental process. Many of our clients have established their priorities and have us work on one project a season.
