Basic Activities

Garden Bed Cleanup:  We will clean out landscape beds, remove spent foliage, weeds, and debris.  This not only enhances the appearance of your landscape but also decreases the overwintering of pests and diseases.

Prune Perennials and Remove Annuals: Cutbacks of perennials are done now or if you choose, leave standing for winter interest.   Annuals that have been planted in containers or the ground should be removed and disposed.

Freshen Up Mulch: If your current mulch is thin, apply a fresh layer to help insulate plant roots from the cold and retain moisture.

Leaf Removal: Leaves can accumulate quickly and suffocate your lawn and plants.

Pruning and Trimming:  Proper pruning and trimming are essential to promote plant health and encourage optimal growth.  We can easily assess and selectively prune branches to improve tree structure, remove deadwood, and enhance overall health.

Keep Watering New Plants: If the fall has seen little rain fall, your newly planted trees and shrubs are focusing on root development.  Saturate the soil in anticipation of winter.

Edging: Tighten up spade-cut edges.

Drain Irrigation System:   Shut down and winterize irrigation systems. Drain water from drip irrigation systems, including hoses which should be completely drained and stored in garage.

Aeration and Overseeding:   Aeration helps your grass produce roots and overseeding can fill in patchy grass and increase the thickness of your lawn.  Jump start your new lawn this fall and enjoy a beautiful yard next year!   Hiring a professional is best for this task.

Seed Bare Spots:    Fall is also a good time to repair bare spots in the lawn.

Enhancement Ideas

Plant spring bulbs.

Decorate planters and containers for seasonal interest.

Prepare new beds for future planting by smothering grass or weeds with layers of recycled corrugated cardboard or thick layers of newspaper.  Then put a layer of mulch on top.
